BOOK HAUL: BIG BAD WOLF CEBU 2019

Hello, lovely people who are reading this post! How was your weekend so far?
Last Friday, I went to Cebu and I met up with my boyfriend and my sister at SM City Mall. I arrived around 7PM in the evening, we had dinner at Seafoods and Ribs Warehouse. While waiting for the food to arrive, my boyfriend and I talked nonstop because it's been almost 2 months since we saw each other. I guess you could say that we're on a distance relationship of some sort. We finished eating around 9PM and decided to start book hunting at the Big Bad Wolf book fair held at IEC Convention Center.

Big Bad Wolf (BBW) is the worlds biggest book sale, and I'm so glad that they're back in Cebu again to bring affordable books to all the Cebuanos. As a book lover, I am so happy because I get to own books which I don't normally buy at a normal price because of how expensive it can be. But that doesn't mean I don't buy newly released books especially if it's from my favorite authors. The great thing about BBW is that it brings a lot of people readers and non-readers alike into one community. My sister, who is not a reader, bought a self-help book. Even if you're not much of a reader, you will still find something that you will like.

BOOK HAUL: BIG BAD WOLF CEBU 2019

Last year, when BBW first came into Cebu, I bought a lot of books and went there 4 times. My wallet was crying after the whole thing because I spent almost 8K. I have no regrets about it though, my bookworm heart is happy and that's what's important. I know it sounds a bit irresponsible given that I'm someone who wants to save, but as someone who's been collecting secondhand books since 2015, this is such a steal because they are brand new and sealed, and I just can't stop looking at them. I'm like a proud mother of these babies.

Here are the books I bought last year.

This time, I decided to have a book budget and stick to it. When we arrived at the fair, it was already late in the evening, and there were only a few book hunters left roaming around the convention center. After almost two hours of looking around the General Fiction and Literature Fiction area, we decided to check these books out. Although there are a million of books to choose from, I decided to narrow it down to my favorite authors and got these books in my cart.

A Tale of the Time Being - Ruth Ozeki
As someone who enjoys reading Japanese Literature, I always wanted to read this book because I've heard a lot of positive reviews about this. The bookstagrammers that I followed love this book too and I've seen their posts about it. I honestly squealed with glee when I saw this book. lol! Yes, I overreact to small things.

The Course of Love - Alain De Botton
I've been following De Botton for years now because I enjoy his The School of Life videos on youtube. Psychology and philosophy are something I always wanted to grasp on my own understanding, and the cover is so neat too.

Cathedral - Raymond Carver
Carver is someone I always wanted to read but never got the chance to own his books because it's quite expensive, and the Booksale store that I frequent doesn't have a copy of this. I never thought that I will find this in BBW, but I'm glad I did.

The Plague - Albert Camus
I'm a big fan of Camus and I love The Stranger which is one of my favorite books ever. When I saw this book on top of other books, I immediately grabbed this. Good thing that I'm the only one in the Fiction area at that time. I certainly don't want to make a scene there. lol!

Sophie's Choice - William Styron
I heard a lot about this being one of the best books. And I've been meaning to watch the movie too, but before I could do that, I need to read the book first because I'm always someone who wants to read the book before I can watch the movie adaptation.

The Autumn of the Patriarch - Gabriel Gracia Marquez
I've read and enjoyed Gabo's books, but I didn't know this book's existence until I saw this during the fair. Just like any sane Gabo fan, I grabbed and checked this out.

Post Office - Charles Bukowski
Last year, I read Bukowski's Love is a Dog from Hell and his On Love. This year, I plan on reading this too and add this to my read list like a bookworm gangsta.

Essays in Love - Alain De Botton
Another book from De Botton! My boyfriend also have this book that we bought together at Fully booked last year. He read it and said that it's really good and that I should read it. Finally, I have my own copy now. I'm really excited to read this.

  9. I didn't read any of these books, but they sound really interesting. I read a few books by Albert Camus, The Achemist, 11 minutes and Zahir and liked them, so I might read The Plagues. I read quite a few books by Garcia Marquez and loved them all, so I'm pretty sure I would like that one as well. I will look them up.

  10. I haven't read any of those books but have heard of Sophie's Choice. I haven't seen the movie either but may have to look for it in my audio books. I LOVE book fairs. With the great selections they have, I've been able to take care of a bunch of Christmas shopping and while 8K (in Phil.pesos) sounds like a lot, if you're buying as many books as you did, it's not bad!

  16. Always love reading about a good book haul! <3 This sounds like such a fun event. When does this usually take place? I'm heading home to cebu next year, and it would be wonderful to stop by and do some book shopping myself (especially if there are tons of deals!).
